Trust me, I have many many DVR complaints, although the specific problem of only recording 23 seconds of a show is not one of them. Maybe that's happened once or twice but it's definitely a rare occurrence if at all.

When I read the title of this post I cheered, because I've been screaming this (at my TV, my wife, etc.) more and more lately. But, while I agree with the points you've made here about technology that's missing, more to the point for me is that the CURRENT technology doesn't work right al of the time!! It doesn't have that complicated a job to do. My VCR could always be relied upon to record a show when I told it to. In short it Just Worked. Why is it that every DVR I've ever come across is a buggy mess?!? Before they take the next step to adding more features like you're suggesting, I wish they could at least get the product they've already released working correctly. Forget about missing the last joke from 30 Rock (although I agree that's also annoying) - how about if they can just reliably record the 30 minutes of the show scheduled in the first place?!? (for example, my Verizon DVR frequently only records the first 23 seconds of The Daily Show, or the first 4 minutes of 60 Minutes (hello DVR - the length is right there in the title!), etc.)
